Poem: A smile

When a smile was all she had left,

Wrinkles rounding her eyes,

A strong left dimple in her cheek,

Makeup couldn’t erase time,

When a smile was all she had left.

Aging came fast,

Her slender fingers bore constant pain,

She wore one ring on her thumb,

And walked with a limp for days,

Blue veins circled her palms,

And yet her spirit was sharp as a tac,

When a smile was all she had left.
